Lion Badge

The requirements in effect since 2018 were not revised in June 2022.

Lion is a family-oriented program. A youth and his parent or caring adult partner join Scouting together. A group of six to eight boys and their adult partners meet together in a group called a den. Dens will meet approximately twice per month. They have fun participating in den meetings and outings while making memories together.

The Lion Adventures

The Lion program forms a strong foundation for a lifetime of fun and meaningful family adventures. There are 12 adventures in the Lion program. Five adventures are required for the Lion to earn the Lion badge. The required adventures help youth explore important Scouting ideas. The remaining seven adventures and the preview adventure are known as elective adventures. Each adventure is designed to help your child have fun and learn useful things.

It is not expected that youth will complete all of the adventures. There is no required order for the adventures; however, it is recommended that dens complete the Lion's Honor adventure first. Dens should use local climate and other considerations to determine the best order of delivery of the adventures.

Although participation with an adult partner is required for all Lion awards, recognition items are for the Scouts only.

Requirements

  1. Complete the five required adventures:
    • Lion's Honor
    • Animal Kingdom
    • Fun on the Run!
    • King of the Jungle
    • Mountain Lion
  2. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet entitled
How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide.

Outside of the requirements, Lion Scouts can also complete any number of seven elective adventures of their den's or family's choosing.
