Here is the info on camping at Assateague Island State Park, Maryland, which
was featured in "Scouter" magazine. They have 3 Youth group sites which our
scout troop uses EVERY year for our family camping trip. Each of the 3
areas will accommodate a troop of 60+ boys. It is on the ocean and the
facilities are great. There are hot showers in the bathhouse and a guarded
beach. There is a nature lodge, museum, camp store and of course the famous
ponies have the run of the whole park! Ocean City Maryland is only a few
miles north with all of its attractions. Contact me for recommendations, I
have been visiting this GREAT place for more than a decade. If you have a
small troop, get adjoining regular sites. They have 300+ campsites.
RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST!! This is one of the most popular campsites in

The regular address and phone is:

Berlin, MD 21811
Next door is the Assateague Island National Park which has canoes and sea
kayaks for rent and additional camping. The camping facilities are not as
nice as the state park.
You can do an overnight hike on the beach, about 20 miles, to Chincoteague
Island. There is a primitive camp site half way on the Md./Va. border.
This can be a very interesting hike, as there is nude sunbathing at times
along this route in the more remote areas. There is no camping close to the
beach at Chincoteague. NASA Wallops Island Flight Facility is on the way
between Assateague and Chincoteague and has a Visitor Center.
