Central Cal Scout Mailing List

Through the gracious efforts of the Staff of the SCOUTER'S JOURNAL Magazine, We've set up the List Server up for Scouts & Scouters here on the West Coast. For those of you who do not know what a List Server is, I offer the following explanation:

It is a forum where we can exchange ideas and discuss Scouting (similar to what we have been doing). The difference is that when one of us issues a message into the list server, we all automatically get a copy of the message. We can give the instructions on how to join to other Scouts & Scouters , and they too can become part of this group. Up til now, when a message was given to me, I would determine whether it was a message to me, or one that should go to everyone and then send it out accordingly. The list server does NOT support private mail (You would still use private e-mail for that). ANY message you send to the list server goes to everyone who has subscribed to the list.

HOW TO SUBSCRIBE:

=================

It is simple!

1. Issue an e-mail message to:

listproc@scouter.com

2. LEAVE THE SUBJECT LINE BLANK.

3. In the BODY of the message type:

subscribe bsa-centralcal-net your name (ie: Dave Tracewell)

4. Send the message - you should receive a welcome message back confirming that you have succesfully subscribed to the list.

---

After you have received your welcome message, you can then send normal e-mail messages to the group by sending e-mail to:

bsa-centralcal-net@scouter.com

You should probably start with some sort of INTRODUCTION message introducing yourself, where you are from, and what you do in Scouting. (it is OK to use the subject line in these messages).

You need to subscribe in order to be on the list! You will NOT receive messages unless you subscribe. I am in hopes that this will become a valuable forum to increase the quality and level of Scouting in our councils.

If you have any problems, please feel free to contact me and I will help you as best I can. This will be an important forum in the coming weeks to discuss our pending consolidation and other issues at hand.

Thank You all and Good Scouting To You!

Dave Tracewell
