There is a computer bulletin board system which is operated by members of Gajuka Lodge. The Gajuka BBS can be reached via modem at 607-687-6611. Settings for your modem should be 8-N-1. Modem speeds up to 14.4K are supported. Normal hours of operation for the Gajuka BBS are 10pm-10am. The lodge planned to expand these hours in late 1994. Please check with them for updated information on operating hours.

NCAC - Southern Maryland District BBS

The Southern Maryland District of the National Capital Area Council recently established a new scout BBS. The cost is $5 per month to cover communications line charges which could be reduced depending on the number of subscribers. The BBS is open to all Professional and Volunteer Adult Scouters, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. The BBS can be accessed at the following numbers: 301-645-6817, 301-645-6682, 301-645-6495, and 301-645-6211.

SCOUTNET

David Tracewell, District Commissioner, Tokay District, Forty-Niner Council, has started a new Scouting network called ScoutNet, which operates in 12 countries. He is the North American hub site operating from Starbase International BBS for Scouting at telephone 209-339-0220. His new network was featured in the December 1994 edition of Boys Life. Dave also started the Scouter and Scouting Echoes on FidoNet.

Bulletin Board Sites Which Carry Scouting Related Conferences

On the following pages is a list (which was Compiled by Steve Souza who is a member of the SCOUTS-L discussion group) of BBS systems around the country (and beyond) which carry Scouting-related information. The list is sorted by telephone number and was last updated in March, 1993. (No doubt by now there are many additional BBSs that carry Scouting-Related Conferences and some of these may no longer be operational. You should also be aware that the BBSs carry many other topics and conferences other than Scouting. OZ denotes Australia) The boards listed as having node numbers are part of the SCOUTER echo conference, as well as being locally callable boards. Those whose node number begins with an '8' are part of RBBS-Net, or Network net, while those whose node number starts with a 1, 2 or 3 are a part of the Fidonet network.
